It happens. You get notice guests are coming and haven’t done your cleaning. What to do?

Nobody like to be a bad host and have guest see your unsightly house. Luckily, there is help. These quick cleaning tips will get you out of the mess.

Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff

You need to use the “80/20” rule which states 80% of your work comes from 20% of your effort. Your goal is make the house presentable, not a “Better Homes and Garden Showplace”.

The rooms to concentrate on will be the living room, dining room, bathroom, and kitchen. The room the guest will be using.

First grab a basket and pick up stray stuff as you go through these rooms. Close bedroom doors since your guest won’t be going into them. The goal is to get the basket full and dump it somewhere your guest won’t be.

Bedrooms, laundry room, or garage is a great place to dump your load. If you have time, sure put it away. If not just keep moving.

Where To Clean First?

The room needing the most attention is the bathroom. Make sure it is clean and has toilet paper. A quick fragrance spray, candles, or a plug-in air freshener is the way to go.

Spray down the sinks and tub with cleaner to let them sit while you attend to the floor. Make sure to wipe everything down and sweep the floor last. Have clean towels out too.

Grab your sweeper and dusting cloth and do the kitchen and living room since the guests will spend most of their time here. It is a good idea to wipe the kitchen appliances down. Take out the kitchen trash and put in a new bag.

All this can be done in less than an hour if you are pressed for time. Last minute guests don’t have to be a nightmare if you follow these instructions.
